White House Releases New ‘It’s On Us’ PSA Against Sexual Assault on College Campuses

A new public service announcement was released by the White House on Thursday as part of the “It’s On Us” campaign against sexual assault on college campuses across the nation.

The campaign was first launched in September and is trying to encourage action among college students, especially young men as they may be able help someone in need. The Administration is hoping to encourage them to step in when they witness incidents of young women in compromising situations.

The call to action is driven home in the PSA when the narrator can be heard saying, “This isn’t a PSA about a sexual assault. It’s about being the guy who stops him.”

There has been some great progress made in the initiative to combat sexual assaults on our campuses. The Administration has opened investigations that resulted in the exposure of colleges that were found to have mishandled investigations and reports of assaults. The amount of reports that went ignored prompted new guidelines to be issued and a greater effort to be made in an attempt to protect the victims of assault.

Along with the “It’s On Us” campaign, an online resource by the name of “notalone.gov” was introduced by Obama and Joe Biden, as a means for victims of sexual assaults to file complaints against their attackers as well has access to resources for support in the aftermath.

President Obama said during the opening statement of his speech in September when the campaign was launched, “When [students] finally make it onto campus, only to be assaulted, that’s not just a nightmare for them and their families. It’s not just an affront to everything they’ve worked so hard to achieve. It is an affront to our basic humanity. It insults our most basic values as individuals, and families, and as a nation.”
