Most Common Places Interns Get Hired

A recent study performed by LinkedIn that in reviews over 300 million of its member profiles, found that those that interned with accounting companies had a better chance at landing a full time job. As a matter of fact 59% of interns with accounting firms went on to full time employment. So if you are looking for a stable, secure major and internship to flow into, choose accounting.

There seems to be a trend of accounting firms really taking good care of their interns too. KPMG LLP, a Big Four firm, has a workshop of sorts every summer for its 1,200 interns. One of the major things that they go over is the Dos and Don’ts of office attire. They in turn give each intern a gift card for $200 to shop at either Men’s Warehouse or Banana Republic. To top it off they also gift their interns with ties for the men and jewelry for the women.

There were 65 industries total in the LinkeIn study and coming in a second place hiring position we have computer networking hiring 47% of interns. Coming in third with 40% of interns hired we have semiconductors. On the flip side, non-profit management and travel and leisure industries had the lowest intern retention. The study shows that only 19% of interns can expect to lock in a job.
