Great Ways for New Grads to Get a Boost Up the Corporate Ladder If you are a new graduate and just starting out in the corporate world, it can seem like a pretty daunting task to work your way from the bottom up. It will take some hard work and time to get there, but in the meantime here are some tips to give you a boost up the corporate ladder. Don’t be afraid to put your ideas out there. Sometimes you have to be the one that speaks up and puts your two cents in. Sharing your ideas can get you recognition, will help the high ups in the company remember your name and face as well as possibly getting some extra assignments thrown your way. When you have an idea do make sure to spend enough time formulating how to pull it off. Think about every angle of it and how to expertly execute it. Having these details locked down will really help you to stand out and may even get you promoted faster. Keep working hard. It’s a common theme for new grads to feel like starting out as an entry level worker is not challenging enough and too mundane. Unfortunately, we all have to start somewhere and it is usually doing boring tasks like filing, delivering mail or answering phones. Just keep your head down and work hard anyway. It will pay off in the end when your hard work and dedication is noticed. Get a good reputation. You always have the option of moving on to different companies, so it is a good idea to build and maintain a good reputation. You can do this by building a good report with your fellow employees, superiors and by remaining active within the business community. In all likelihood, you are going to find a company that will appreciate all of your skills even if your current company doesn’t. Source: Olson, L.
