An Online Mathematics Degree Is A Breeze For 10 Year Old UK Girl Esther Okade isn’t just any 10 year old little girl from the United Kingdom. She also happens to be a 10 year old little girl who is also a whiz with numbers and is currently earning an online mathematics degree with Open University. Little Esther doesn’t plan to stop there either as she aims high for a PhD and aspires to run her very own bank some day. She’s off to a good start, too as she’s already acing her tests with perfect scores. The apple clearly doesn’t fall far from the tree in this bright family. Esther’s mother, Omonefe, just so happens to be a mathematicians and electrical engineer. She has been homeschooling her children in a re-purposed living room and instilled a love of learning early on. Esther already knew her alphabet, numbers and a good deal of math by the time she was four years old. “From the age of seven Esther has wanted to go to university. But I was afraid it was too soon. She would say, ‘Mum, when am I starting?’ and go on and on and on. Finally, after three years she told me, ‘Mum I think it is about time I started university now,” Omonefe said. So, at the urging of their precocious daughter the Okade’s went ahead and applied to Open University after Esther passed her A Levels with ease. Esther’s application was submitted to the university in August and she was accepted by December. “Applying to the university was an interesting process because of her age. We even had to talk to the Vice Chancellor. After they interviewed her they realized that this has been her idea from the beginning,” said Omonefe. The bright smile on Esther’s little face was indicative of how truly excited she was about her new college endeavor. Her mother said, “She was flying when she got accepted. She was so happy.” Esther’s parents are pretty proud of their little girl as they should be. Paul, her father, said “I cannot tell you how happy and proud I am as a father. The desire of every parent is to see their children exceed them, and take the family name to great heights, and my children have done just that.” Go Esther! We can’t wait to see what you do next!
