Tech School Enrollment Soars

Enrollment in the technical community college Wake Tech is at an all-time high. Wake Tech reached 22,000 students enrolling this week. This is a record breaking high for the North Carolina school. It also exceeded its fall enrollment by 500 students.

Students are becoming more and more inclined to enroll in technical colleges. Bryan Ryan, a senior vice president of curriculum education services, believes that large growth in enrollment is a combination of a few different factors. Ryan believes the strength of the technical programs and their innovation are key factors.

Ryan states, “One of the reasons that those programs continue to be interesting to our students and high school graduates is that we haven’t let those programs become stale.” This definitely makes sense because student’s attentions are fickle and can be easily swayed if not fully engaged.

There has been a significant amount of growth seen in welding technology program at Wake Tech and there are now associate’s degrees offered to promote the program. Ryan has noted that some students are fine with remaining in two year technical programs. There are also many others that intend to transfer and expand upon their education at a four year college, especially since this is an option that has become more available in recent years.
