New Master’s Degree Program Set To Launch At LIM College

LIM College in New York has always prided themselves on melding business and fashion and the meshing of the two worlds will now go a step further as they launch the Master of Professional Studies in Visual Merchandising program (MPS VM).

The graduate program will be the very first of its kind in the United States and has officially been approved by the New York State Board of Regents.

President of LIM College, Elizabeth S. Marcuse, said “For fashion companies, and the host of related industries that support them, the necessity of competing in a global marketplace combined with the challenges associated with e-commerce business models have made the inner workings of the supply chain more complex and critical than ever. Companies are faced with the demands of a fast-fashion production cycle, requests for sustainable sourcing solutions, and the challenges of managing a global sourcing network. This translates into an increasing need for professionals with an advanced level of supply chain and logistics knowledge.”

The MPS VM program is comprised of 30 credits and is said to take students about a year to complete. The program delves into important areas of study that are necessary to be knowledgeable in when working in the field. Some topics covered are operations management, supply chain analytics and much more. LIM also kept the needs of working students enrolling in the program in mind, whether they are planning to attend full time or part time. The college has set all MPS VM classes in the evening to accommodate all students.

“The business of fashion has in the last decade alone come to encompass an extraordinarily expansive range of professional occupations. As such, this new program demonstrates LIM College’s ongoing commitment to meet the needs of employers in the fashion and related industries. In today’s global business environment, professionals with specialized knowledge and expertise are in a great demand, so it is imperative that LIM College expand and evolve the scope of advanced degrees available through our Center for Graduate Studies accordingly,” said Dr. Christopher J. Cyphers, LIM College’s Provost and Executive Vice President.

The MPS VM program begins its first semester this fall with the hope of being able to “meet a growing need for professionals with a specialized knowledge in an increasingly critical field.”
