Missing: Shane Montgomery of West Chester University

West Chester University senior, Shane Montgomery has been missing since the early morning hours of Thanksgiving when he was last seen walking over the bridge covering the Schuylkill River. It’s been 20 days and his absence is growing more crushing to those close to him by the day.

Hours before he went missing, Shane spent the evening with his friends enjoying some pre-Thanksgiving celebrations in Manayunk only to vanish without a trace. The three weeks following his disappearance have brought few leads and little headway, but that all changed when a local Manayunk nail shop owner came forward with a video of Shane walking down the street towards the bridge.

While any leads are a hopeful step in the right direction, the video has brought a great bit of frustration to the missing 21 year olds family and friends. Roommate and friend, Ryan McGilloway says, “Well it’s aggravating that the nail salon had the video and didn’t contact the FBI until this week. But it points us in some kind of direction and brings us closer, even it it’s only slightly, to finding Shane.”

The friends and family of the missing student have been working tirelessly with the FBI and local Philadelphia Police to search the surrounding area, post flyers and raising money in an attempt to bring Shane home.

As the days grow shorter and the nights grow colder, the concern over Shane’s disappearance and desperation to find him grows. The over 400 volunteers working tirelessly to find him and the $65,000 award offered is evidence of that desperation, which is palpable when viewing images of their efforts.

The FBI and police are acting on the information gathered from the video as well as any additional tips received with the intent to perform a thorough search of both the Manayunk Canal and Schuylkill River.

Shane Montgomery was last seen outside of Kildare’s Bar in Manayunk, Philadelphia wearing a gray hoodie, gray button up shirt and blue jeans. He is 5’ll”, 140 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes. Shane also has a tattoo on his shoulder blades that is of Celtic design.

Authorities are asking for anyone with information to please contact Kevin Verbrugge at (267) 304-0864 or via email at bringshanehome@gmail.com.
