Lake Superior State University Releases List of Most Overused and Obnoxious Words Lake Superior State University has asked the public to help them decide which words are the most overused and obnoxious. The university uses these words and phrases to compile the annual List of Words to be Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and Uselessness. The list of most loathed words in our lexicon was released on Wednesday for the 40th time with entries that join the well over 800 already added since the first list was issued in 1976. Tom Pink, spokesman for the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and Uselessness and Lake Superior State University, said “Sometimes, phrases can rise and fall rapidly and without ever invading the broader lexicon, often staying largely within conversations among young people. “Bae” is an example of a word that some feel deserves to disappear, while others will be surprised to know it even exists, said Tom Pink, a spokesman for the university and the list.” “Take a look at some of the words on the Lake Superior State University’s 40th annual list of words nominated for banishment by members of the public: Bae Polar vortex Hack Skill set Swag Foodie Curate/curated Friend-raising Cra-cra Enhanced interrogation Takeaway Nation The list goes on with more words and phrases that grate on nerves and make eyes roll. Unfortunately, there isn’t really a way to stop people from using the words “bae” or “cra-cra”. Hopefully one day these words will be just a distant memory in pop culture history.
